Gen Z and The Luxury Brands Obsessed with Them

Take the time to scan many fashion mags such as W Magazine’s April issue, and some how it seems like a high-fashion editorial  yearbook of all the celeb teens you know and love including Willow Smith, Kiernan Shipka and Zendaya  on its April issue. Move on to other luxury glossies and you can see Cindy Crawdford’s exact lush mini me, Kaia Gerber with rappers and models in a campaign that of Alexander Wang. Louis Vuitton has 17-year-old Jaden Smith who models for their women’s wear, as well as Lourdes “Lola” Leon and Amandla Stenberg for a new fragrance ad for Stella McCartney.

W chief Stefano Tonchi addresses the staggeringly young age of his cover stars. “The new generation, Gen Z, which spans current teenagers like the three on our cover and their peers in their early 20s, is in a hurry to be recognized, yes—but in a refreshingly thoughtful way,” he writes. “Unlike their predecessors, they are no slackers. Generally speaking, they are curious, determined, and hardworking. If there is anything they lack, it’s a sense of entitlement.”

Who Wore it Best: Met Gala 2016

It was another star-studded event last night at the Met Gala, and we couldn’t help swoon at a lot of fantastic choices this time around. This year I would say was a bit more tame and tasteful. Rare instances of major ostentatious wardrobe show up’s with the exception of Miss Lady Gaga, but would we expect anything less?

The theme this time around was Manus x Machina, and many of the A-listers rocked lots of metallic frocks full of shimmer to pay homage to the Fashion in the Age of Technology theme. Clare Danes won the theme of this year’s Met Gala in her glow-in-the-dark light up custom dress by Zac Posen. Rita Ora gave major babe vibes in her feathery gown made special by Vera Wang.

Ruby Rose is The New Face For Urban Decay

image

Two months after the company’s collaboration with Gwen Stefani, Urban Decay has just announced that Jane-of-all-Trades and professional babe Ruby Rose is the new face for a new collection. They announced the news earlier this morning, along with her new title: Most Addictive New Vice. What exactly does this entail? “Just to keep rocking our world and spreading the gospel of our self-expression, addiction to color, and ‘beauty with an edge.’” The brand posted a shot of the model-actress-DJ with a sultry smoky cat eye and a hot pink shimmery lip earlier this morning on their Instagram account. This seems like a match made in heaven for the edgy makeup brand and equally edgy and outspoken Rose. She said in a press release, “Urban Decay believes in supporting individuality and personal self-expression—two values I hold very dear—because everyone deserves the freedom to explore their personality and discover their true selves.” I mean, we couldn’t think of a more fitting face for the brand—even the brand’s Instagram caption reads, “Ruby Rose. Urban Decay. Obviously.” Continue Reading

Beth Ditto, front woman for the band Gossip, has just released an eponymous plus-size clothing line. Ditto announced the launch of her collection with a special-edition T-shirt designed in collaboration with designer friend Jean Paul Gaultier. A trompe-l’oeil visual play, the dress-length, oversized tee features a front and back print of Gaultier’s iconic bullet bra corset, with 3-D adjustable corset laces on the back. A portion of the proceeds from sales will go to the Girls Rock Camp Foundation, for which Ditto serves as advisory board member.”Jean Paul is the most generous, positive person,” Ditto said about their collaboration,  to WWD.com “he truly loves women of all sizes and ages and knows how to make everyone feel gorgeous. I love that this shirt is funny and chic at the same time, like all the best people!” And to her point, Gaultier has been enthusiastically supportive.”Big girls are beautiful and Beth is super beautiful!” Gaultier commented in a release, “Long live the beauty with shapes, boobs and bottoms. This is a new concept, a loose fit corset. And Beth fits it perfectly”. The pair have been inseparable since Ditto walked the Gaultier runway in a custom gown, which was featured in a retrospective at the Brooklyn Museum. The 11-piece ethical collection was created in New York and will be available in U.S. sizes 14 to 28. She spoke in a press release in December that her line was “inspired by her love of vintage.” The collection includes vintage-detail dresses, tailored pencil skirts, leggings, silk bubble dresses, and hand-embroidered denim jackets. The price range is from 46 pounds, or $66 at current exchange, for a T-shirt to 300 pounds, or $433, for a silk jumpsuit. The collection is available for purchase on bethditto.com and in Selfridges in the U.K.

How the 90s Never Really Left

Screen Shot 2016-01-19 at 10.51.30 AM

Let’s face it. We can’t really say that the 90s has seen a recent major comeback, because in fact it feels like it never left. Somehow some way every designer or a fellow fashion person you know couldn’t quite let go of the feel-good ‘dazed and confused’ nostalgia— relentlessly bringing back its reincarnation over and over again. Much like the baby boomers that can’t let go of that one concert called Woodstock, you can bet you’ll see this era cementing its stay for a while. With shows like our beloved Full House coming back  to Courtney Love’s recent design collaboration with Nasty Gal , the 90s does not give a rat’s ass that it’s 2016.

Riding on the 90s train, rapper A$AP Rocky is adding to the throwback movement with a 29 piece capsule collection with Guess founder Paul Marciano. A$AP’s inspiration for the collection recalls some of his favorite looks from the brand’s nineties heyday — complete with its iconic inverted triangle logo. You can expect the find oversized jackets, striped crew neck tees, logo’d crop tops and overalls with the triangle logo screen printed on the inside. The collaboration also officially launches the brand’s Guess Originals, which Marciano calls a “modern heritage-driven line.”

Fashion Girl’s Guide to Holiday Travel

Screen Shot 2015-12-11 at 10.43.03 AM

Traveling during the holidays can test the patience of even the most seasoned travel pros. Be it by plane, train, or automobile, getting to where you’ve got to go this season is bound to bring with a plethora of stressful situations. Never ending traffic, long lines at the airport, TSA checks, and weather delays can all cause headaches. Not to mention the costs associated with celebrating “the most wonderful time of the year.” Airline, hotel, and car rental reservations are in high demand; there’s no such thing as a last-minute deal. Or holiday deal, period. It’s almost enough to make you want to call up your folks and tell them you’re just not coming. Instead of getting stressed out, get smart. Take a deep breath. There are ways to survive this travel gauntlet, with your sanity–and holiday spirit–unscathed . For fellow fashionistas, what to wear while traveling is forever a tricky question. The best outfit for an airplane is going to be equal parts stylish and comfortable, crafted to handle both hours spent sitting and stylish post-gate activity. Here is where the genius of a uniform comes into play: Figure out what works for you, then reach for it without thinking any time you’ve got travel on the calendar. Having an arsenal of fool-proof closet essentials–the big cardigan, the comfy trench, the stylish sweatpants, the easy to slip off pair of flats, the loose fitting boyfriend jeans–are all the best items to reach for when picking a look that’s easy, chic, and #OOTD worthy.

Winona Forever

Winona-Ryder-Marc-Jacobs-Beauty

2015 isn’t quite over yet, but we’ve already got an abundance of things to look forward to for next year. Now, Marc Jacobs has given us yet another thing to be hopeful for in the future. He announced via his Instagram yesterday afternoon that is long time friend Winona Ryder was tapped to be the face of his Spring 2016 Beauty campaign. This will be the first time the actress has ever been the face of a beauty campaign, but not the first time she partnered with Jacobs in a campaign. Winona was featured in a fun an quirky Fall campaign only a few months ago and it seems that the collaboration went so well, they’re at it again. The image that Marc shared on his account was a cropped close-up of Winona rocking a a thin cat-eye, long thick lashes, and a hue of blush pink on her lips. The look is one that balances iconically heavy makeup of the 60s with the fresh, natural look that designers have been erring towards all year. The inspiration for the look has been sited by Jacobs as Delphine Seyrig from the film The Last Year at Marienbad.
